Only this salmon didn\u2019t swim upstream, it flew in.<br \/>\nThis morning more than 9 tonnes of Copper River salmon landed in Seattle on an Alaska Airlines flight with much fanfare, launching the start of what is expected to be a 45-tonne season.<br \/>\nEach year the airline works with three of the region\u2019s largest seafood processors \u2013 Ocean Beauty Seafoods, Trident Seafoods and Copper River Seafoods \u2013 to \u201cdeliver the first catch of the coveted wild Copper River salmon from the state of\u00a0Alaska\u00a0to\u00a0Seattle\u00a0and on to points across the country.\u201d All of this first load of fish is delivered \u201cwithin 24 hours of being caught,&#8221; said\u00a0Jason Berry, Alaska Air Cargo managing director.<br \/>\nBy the end of the day, an additional three flights, carrying up to 3 tonnes of the prized salmon, will pass through Seattle for redistribution throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond.<br \/>\nAlaska Airlines&#8217; prized &#8220;Salmon-thirty-Salmon&#8221; 737.<br \/>\n&#8220;As the salmon season gets into full swing, our team is standing by to transport fresh\u00a0Alaska salmon to restaurants and consumers throughout the U.S.,\u201d added Berry.&#013;<br \/>\nSource: aircargoworld<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s become an annual rite of passage for the U.S. Northwest \u2013 the arrival of fresh salmon in Seattle.
