Air- and oceanfreight forwarder and customs brokerage Flexport has commenced operations at its regional headquarters in Hong Kong. Yesterday\u2019s announcement expands the U.S.-based online startup\u2019s reach into Asia. \u201cHong Kong is one of the busiest cargo hubs in the world, with five-hour flight connections to key Asian cities,\u201d said Flexport CEO Ryan Petersen.
\nWith two of the largest ocean ports in the world \u2013 the Port of Hong Kong and the Port of Shenzhen \u2013 and the world\u2019s busiest cargo airport (HKG), Hong Kong presents a massive market ripe for disruption. Most air cargo from Shenzhen and southern China moves out of HKG, which has more international air connections than its mainland competitors.
\nAssociate Director-General of Investment Promotion Jimmy Chiang explained that, \u201cFlexport\u2019s business proposition of an online platform for international trade will not only make handling shipment more efficient for clients, but also introduce new technologies and services to the industry.\u201d
